Summer Solstice Panic!

So apparently today is the summer solstice. Does anyone feel a little panicked about this?! It’s the longest day of the year… meaning the days will be getting shorter from now on… meaning we’re getting closer to winter! I know at the start of every year we all think that we’re going to make the year ‘the best year ever’ and we actually end up sitting on the sofa watching Netflix in our PJs and eating crap all year; but this year I genuinely don’t feel as though I’ve done anything productive and feel as through the year has just flown by. Sure, I got a job closer to home but I just don’t believe this was anything spectacular, especially since it’s taken my weekends away, making it more difficult to spend time with the people I want to make memories with! I don’t know, maybe I’m fantasizing too much and this is just what life is like, but I really hope it isn’t. And I hope that the rest of this year turns around!

How has your year been so far? Have you got any goals for the rest of the year? Let me know!

I'm going semi-naked

Ok, well not naked as such. But I am trying the go a little more - I guess you'd say - minimalist. I don't want to go full-on 'throw everything away and live in the same 3 t-shirts' minimalist, but I do want to be a lot more cautious and mindful in what I buy and what I own. I won't be getting rid of things I love, like my books or my craft supplies, but I think I'm ready to get rid of those clothes that I 'might fit back into one day' or the DVD's that I'll 'get around to watching soon'.

I think there is an important line between complete minimalist and having enough. It's about being happy with what you have. I want to be happy with what I have, and not feel that I need anything else. To say that me and my partner are only in our 20s, we have a shameful amount of things and I have to say that it does clutter your life. I want to be able to have free space in my home, I want to be able to know what I have and where it is when I need it. I don't want to have to re-arrange my desk or dresser every time I want to use it.

There are a lot of things at the moment that I'm not prepared to get rid of, and that's ok too. I don't want to be hasty and end up getting rid of something I regret, but I know in time I will get rid of more and prioritise what I need. I'm a long way off being a minimalist and if I'm honest, I don't think I would want to be. I just want to be happy, and if that means having a balance of stuff and empty space, I'm willing to take myself on this journey.

Are you a minimalist? What are your thoughts on minimalism? Let me know!

Until next time...
