Essence Express Dry Drops: First Impressions

I love doing my nails, but I don't find much time to do them in the day; which means that my nails tend to get all creased and ruined from not drying quick enough before I go to sleep. Queue Essence's Express Dry Drops...

So when I paint my nails I try to do everything possible to help them dry quickly. I do small, thin layers and build them up, leaving time to dry in between each layer; I use quick-dry top coats; I paint them as soon as possible after work to let them dry in time for me to go to sleep, but still no luck! I still end up with smudges and dents from where my pillow has been pressing into my nails. I tried Seche Vite and wasn't happy with the formula or the finish so I thought I'd try another brand. I already use Essence's Quick Dry Top Coat and it does do the job, although not brilliantly. Even though I wasn't entirely happy with their top coat I thought I'd give them a second chance and try their Express Dry Drops, as I'd never seen these before and just hoped to find something that worked!

To be honest I'm actually quite happy with this product. It comes in a little bottle and you use the pipette to squeeze a few drops out onto each nail, meaning that the liquid covers the nail itself and has less chance of ruining a design, so it's very easy to use.

It also contains almond oil which will help to care for the nails and cuticles, which I think is a nice added touch! This does make the nails quite oily though, but it isn't too bad as it can be easily wiped away once the nail is dry.

For this test I used 'Maximillian Strasse Her' from Essie as my base colour, and I used 2 coats. I didn't apply my top coat straight away as I wanted to see how quickly it worked on its own. The liquid spread quite easily and I only used 1 or 2 drops on each nail. After a few minutes I was able to touch my nail and rub in a bit of the oil, and it didn't affect the finish of the polish, but I knew I wouldn't be able to press hard on my nail as it would still be too soft. Once this had been rubbed in a little I applied my Essence top coat and applied another drop to each nail and this seemed to work quite nicely, although I'm not sure if applying the oil before the top coat affected the application.

Overall the oil does seem to help speed up the length of time it takes to do regular things again without ruining the nails, but they still seem to stay quite tacky for a while after. I would recommend getting this if you find yourself short on time to do your nails, it's very affordable and easy to use! If there are other drops out there I might try them out in future, if you know of any let me know because I think they're a great idea!

Until next time...
